Siddharth Shingade

b. 1983, Tuljapur, Maharashtra, India

Siddharth Shingade’s practice is deeply rooted in the lived realities of rural India, shaped by his upbringing in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, a drought-prone landscape whose stark terrain continues to inform both the visual language and emotional depth of his work. Drawing from memory and observation, his paintings centre on village communities, often depicting figures in moments of quiet stillness—couples, herders, musicians, and groups gathered in shared rituals and everyday life.

His compositions are marked by a distinctive interplay between restraint and richness. In many works, a subdued palette of browns and ochres echoes the parched earth of his homeland, grounding his figures in a sense of quiet contemplation. At the same time, Shingade introduces vibrant passages of colour in celebratory and devotional contexts, where textiles, movement, and collective presence bring a rhythmic energy to the surface.

Without adhering to a single narrative, his work moves fluidly between the personal and the universal—drawing from rural life, folklore, and spiritual themes. Across these varied expressions, Shingade’s paintings remain a lyrical and enduring tribute to the people, traditions, and landscape that have shaped his sensibility.
