Bhuwan Silhare

b. 1974, Gondia, Maharashtra, India

Bhuwan Silhare is known for his evocative cityscapes and cultural landscapes rendered in acrylic on canvas. His work is rooted in a deep engagement with India’s architectural and spiritual heritage, focusing primarily on two enduring themes—Varanasi and Mumbai.

In his Varanasi series, Silhare captures the rhythm of the ghats, the sacred presence of the Ganga, and the visual intensity of rituals, conveying a sense of timeless devotion. His Mumbai works, in contrast, explore the city’s colonial architecture, often seen through the lens of monsoon light, mist, and reflection.

He studies locations on site and works through multiple sketches, often combining different viewpoints into a single composition. His handling of acrylic creates a watercolour-like effect, bringing a sense of lightness and atmosphere to the work.
